Who Moved My Cheese?
“Move with the Cheese and enjoy it.” — Who Moved My Cheese, pg. 76
In Your Words… I just want to take a quick moment and thank you for your wonderful emails. This time of year is so wonderful and so stressful at the same time! Your reliable flow of quotes and reminders really help me to remember what truly matters! — Mary
Greetings! My son-in-law, Brian, is facing his third back surgery today. It has been a tremendously long and difficult road but Brian is right there with it. This is no easy task — especially since the expectation for the last two times did not come through. But in and among all the shifting and changing, Brian has been keeping an eye on his Cheese and THAT is what is going to get him through today. And then tomorrow, and the next… Dr. Spencer Johnson’s award winning book boils Change down to a simple picture. Take what you feel you have lost and picture it as a piece of cheese. Relationships, jobs, things, peace, happiness, health. These are all examples of what can shift around if you are not keeping your eye on it. Who Moved My Cheese is all about not taking things for granted. Nothing is permanent. When you start to believe that something cannot change, you are starting to head down the wrong path. Take a moment to think about it — what things, what circumstances, what ideas do you have in your life that you feel absolutely and positively will not change. Now ask yourself — are you absolutely sure? True self-awareness begins by taking a step back from the everyday things before the everyday things push back on their own. Knowing that it can all change in one moment is the key to keeping your eye on the Cheese in your life.
Best Regards — Ron

Illuminate YOUR Light Bulb!
Greetings!
Recently I was in a meeting discussing some big ideas and a great new direction for a client. We had great conversation and at the end, he told me that he was very excited about his future and he thanked me for my time and efforts. Both of us were right there, in the moment, making plans and exchanging ideas.
As he was seeing me to the door, we were talking about some casual things. A little bit of this and that. A quick exchange of thoughts and ideas. The kind of the wandering talk you have seemingly without purpose…
…until it hits you later and stops you in your tracks.
It’s like the switch went on and you see something unexpected. That moment of “ah-ha!!” where you find the buried treasure among the ordinary. A moment of discovery. It is the moment where you know you are standing at the Crossroad looking at a new direction.
It is in this powerful moment of awareness that your Light Bulb brightens.
Take a break from all the goings on and let your mind wander and become ‘aware’ of your surroundings. Shine some light on the ordinary today — there’s a new direction waiting to be found.
Best Regards — Ron

“I’ve Got Nothing. Do You?”
In Your Words…
I first met you at your Bohemia office for a Book Club Group discussion on “The Four Agreements.” I truly remember having some lively discussions…a wonderful experience for me. I picked up your flyer at Borders Books and the rest is history! The right thing at the right time. I was meant to be there and have a Ron Villano experience. You have made a difference. — Sophia
Greetings!
Yesterday I did nothing. I mean nothing related to work, or taking care of my things, or running errands… I sat by the pool with family and friends. That was it. Done.
Now the funny thing is that I have been talking about doing exactly this for a few weeks now. But, as what happens to so many people, things come up. And that’s OK — just as long as the things that need to be done come into balance with the doing of no-thing.
As I was enjoying the day, there came a moment when I realized that the balance had somehow gotten out of whack. Just like I plan my day, plan my appointments and plan my errands and things to-do list, I should be planning a time to do the no-things.
This is more than just a time for the body to recharge. It is the time for your mind to take a moment to pause and check out all the things you’ve got going on around you. You might be surprised to find some additional baggage that has snuck on board your journey when you were too busy.
So, what’s on your no-thing to-do list?
Best Regards — Ron

A Hot Friday Vacation Tip!
Greetings!
Vacation time — ’tis the season? Why? It should be vacation time every chance you get.
Name one thing that you want to do when you go on vacation — let’s say “pack a lunch and spend the day on the beach.” If you live right here on Long Islandjust pick a beach — one that you haven’t gone to; one that you may even have to pay a little bit because you aren’t a resident. Pack it up and go. You have accomplished what you would have if on vacation, say, in Cape Cod — go to a new beach.
Got a taste for service? Do you enjoy a nice hotel with amenities; someone to make the bed; maybe a night club right on site? We’ve got them here too — when is the last time you thought about booking a night in a Long Island hotel just for fun? And just think — it won’t take HOURS to get off Long Island….
Want to get away and not spend a whole lot of cash? Mark ‘vacation day’ on your calendar and set out and see some of the local sights that you always say, “I should really go there…” Just like traveling to a special destination to see the attractions. Just think — millions of people travel right here to see our sites, right? Plus… you don’t have the expense of the hotel, extra miles, and maybe even… ugh, tolls!
Vacation time doesn’t mean that you have to leave home. It is all about enjoying time away from the daily routine. Change the way you look at celebrating these fun moments — and take the stress out of “getting away from it all.”
Best regards, always - Ron
Friday So What?- Are YOU poison?
“It is far more difficult to leave unsaid the wrong thing at a tempting moment.” - Benjamin Franklin
Greetings!
“I realized that I wasn’t living the life I had to the fullest or with the right manner of thinking.” — The Zing, pg. 19
Words are more powerful than fists. Sure, the punch hurts a lot in the moment, but then it’s over. Hurtful words become clutter in your mind’s Garage. One of my favorite books, The Four Agreements by don Miguel Ruiz, talks about how to only speak with good intention because anything else is “word poison.”
Stop accepting “word poison” from others by stopping the hurtful flow of a bad conversation. Avoid new clutter in your Garage by having a So What moment.
“In my opinion…” – So What!
“You have no idea…” – So What!
“I wouldn’t have done it that way…” – So What!
Things are never what they appear to be — what seems like a casual conversation to one may actually evoke an emotional response. Give them the benefit of the doubt when simple talk takes a turn. Keep your power, change the mood, and enjoy a “clutter-free” moment.
Best Regards, as always, Ron
